Is the map accurate about where the future construction is going to happen? I live at 113 Parkside Drive where we have just recently (in the last five years) had major road reconstruction. Can I assume that that work that was done at that time can be tied into what ever work still needs to be done?

      Hi Deb,

Thanks for your question about the St. James Neighbourhood sewer works project.

The sewer renewal work that is scheduled to begin in January is not related to the road reconstruction completed on Parkside Drive five years ago. The Water and Waste and Public Works Departments work very closely to complete road works and sewer repairs in a coordinated effort to avoid tearing up new roads to fix things shortly after their reconstruction. Sometimes, despite our best efforts, this cannot be achieved. Normally, we install all our water and sewer mains in a trenchless manner, where possible, to minimize construction impacts on the community. With this project, however, it became clear when we tested the soil conditions at this location the trenchless approach was not possible. Unfortunately this means that we will have disturb the reconstructed roadway on Parkside Drive in order to complete this necessary work. Once the work is complete, however, the road (along with any other areas damaged during construction), will be completely restored.

Have any provisions been made for residents in this area having access to their garages/ driveway during the cold winter months. We are located at 101 Parkside Dr.

          Hi Vivian,

The construction in this area will not affect access to private approaches, so you will still be able to use your driveways and garages.

Just a question about the map…we live in the 130 block off Riverbend Cres, at the end of Garden Road. (The part of Riverbend that runs east to west along the river). The map shows this stretch as a black line. Does this mean the street in front of our house is not included in the project?

      Hi Scott,

The south leg of Riverbend Crescent does not require the installation of a new land drainage sewer and no construction is planned on this section of roadway.

Can you please advise the crews to NOT use the resident’s driveways on Parkside Drive to turn around in their trucks. I have dogs who bark when a truck pulls into my driveway and this disrupts my newborn’s naps.

Can you tell me why, of all the streets in the area being upgraded, that Parkside Dr is not slated for sewer work as indicated by the black line on Parkside? As well the other map titled “Future Work” shows work planned for the north part of Parkside.
Also, it states that “catch basins will be disconnected” Does this mean Parkside will not have storm water runnoff.
Does Parkside already have separate sewer? Please explain the thinking and planning behind this.

In regard to the rehabilitation of the park after construction. We are losing trees that are an effective windbreak on the north end of Parkside. What size trees are going to be planted to replace these. I hope they are going to be small saplings!

As well, how many more trees will have to come down in the neighborhood and what improvements are planned for the reconstruction?

Would appreciate seeing the drawings and plans so that neighbors can submit ideas and suggest improvements.

Hi Dirk, thank you for your interest in the St. James Sewer System Improvements Project.

The Urban Forestry Branch provided the requirements for tree removals and replacements for this project. If you would like to see project drawings, they can be found in the bid opportunity here.

We would be happy to discuss all your questions and review the plans with you more in-depth. We have sent you an email so you can contact the project coordinator directly and set up a meeting.
